(Free-Press-Release.com) July 20, 2010 --
Ringa the Raggedy was created by Jeremy Kahn in 2006. Jeremy Kahn is 22 years old and has asperger's syndrome. He has obtained an associates in commercial arts from DCC and is currently attending SCAD for a bachelors in Sequential Art. He was inspired to become an artist by his high school art teacher Mr. Sert. Jeremy Kahn holds an Associate Degree in Commercial Arts from Dutchess Community College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sequential Art at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Kahn’s work has showed at an art show at West Point University, West Point, NY and at a show at Pace University, Pleasantville, NY. In addition, his art has appeared in the Sonic The Hedgehog - The Complete Series DVD box set. Kahn attended sessions at the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont, which is considered a boot camp for cartoonists. Kahn’s Ringa comics are also for sale at Upstate Comics, Lagrangeville, NY and Alterniverse, Salt Point, NY and have recently become available on Amazon.com’s Kindle site. Also a volume containing the first four issues is available for sale on Apple's iPad.
While coming up with character ideas for an original comic series, he came up with a raccoon heroine named Ringa in response to a lack of female lead characters in comics. Wanting to create a charter that could appeal to that not yet tapped demographic as well as keep them entertained, Jeremy created Ringa.
Originally started as a doodle in history class at Dutchess Community College, Jeremy kept refining the design and taking input from the targeted audience. Eventually he settled on the perfect design and characteristics. The story however went through many changes. At one point he created two issues worth of script, a bunch of concept art, and finished a whole issue but decided to scrap the whole thing.
He reworked the story, feeling it was not what he wanted. After some tweaking he eventually came up with the story line used in the Ringa webcomic. The following is the main summary Jeremy came up with that he based the comic around:
"In the year 2062 a great miracle happened on Jangura, Queen Raggedy gave birth to a very special child. As the child grew she developed special powers and abilities that amazed even the Queen and King. Unfortunately, seven years after her birth she died of an unknown illness.
Four years later a couple found an unconscious girl while out on a walk. Not much is known about this girl except that she exhibits powers and abilities similar to the late princess. The girl was adopted by the couple after it was found that she had no memory of whom she was, or where she came from.
The only part of her memory that she has is her name, Ringa."
Jeremy then took the comic and reworked its pages into the webcomic. The webcomic showcases the comic, but with some minuses. The actual comic has a few extra pages that the webcomic doesn't, this is to provoke a purchase. On the website are character bios and information about Ringa's world. You can also find concept sketches, as well as a blog and forums. The website is easy to navigate and all previous webcomics from previous weeks are stored in an archive section. The webcomic is updated every other Sunday.
