Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Puts Tim Tebow on the Trading Block

April 21, 2010

Ripley’s is taking offers from the public for one-of-a-kind trade for a portrait of University of Florida Quarterback Tim Tebow

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 21, 2010 -- ORLANDO, Fla. – (April 16, 2010) – The NFL draft is less than a week away, and Tim Tebow is already on the trading block.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is fielding any and all offers for its one-of-a-kind Tim Tebow mosaic made from 46,000 Airsoft BB’s.

Ripley’s acquired the unusual Tebow portrait in December 2009, and it has been a popular attraction in Ripley’s Orlando Odditorium. But the BB Tebow is no longer the most popular portrait in the lineup and has been moved down the Ripley’s depth chart by recent acquisitions.

Candy portraits of chart-topping pop singers that are oh-so-sweet have thrown quarterback Tebow for a loss. Maybe it’s because it’s not football season, but he’s been sidelined by a candy portrait of Beyonce that now hangs in Tebow’s place. He’s lost a step to the likes of Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and Elvis – all done in candy.

“Sometimes you have to shake up your lineup for the good of the team,” said Jim Pattison Jr., President of Ripley Entertainment Inc., obviously tongue in cheek. “Just like the Philadelphia Eagles decided it was best to trade Donovan McNabb, Ripley’s has decided that it is in our best interest to trade our Tim Tebow mosaic.”

What would the company like in return?

“We’re open to absolutely anything,” said Pattison. “We want something that represents the Ripley’s brand that our audience will enjoy, or that benefits a worthy cause. The more unusual the better!”

Ripley’s will entertain all offers, from artifacts to stunts to charitable donations. Happen to have an extra shrunken head around the house? Make an offer. Willing to perform an amazing stunt for a crowd at a Ripley’s museum? Make an offer. Are you a Gator fan willing to make a generous donation to a worthy charity? Make an offer.

People who want to make a trade offer can do so via the "Submit Your Stuff" page on the Ripley’s website - http://www.ripleys.com/submit/. Company officials will review the offers and contact the person with the best offer to finalize the trade.

The Tebow mosaic was created by Gainesville artist John O'Hearn. O’Hearn is primarily a sculptor, but has spent the last few years experimenting with Airsoft BB’s as a medium. The BB’s act as pixels in the mosaics he creates. The artwork measures approximately 4 feet by 6 feet. It contains 227 tubes, and each tube contains 204 BB’s – for a grand total of 46,308 tiny plastic balls. A work of art like this doesn’t come easy and doesn’t come cheap: O’Hearn sells similar mosaics for $5,000.
