FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Columbus, Ohio, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) August 20, 2010 --Riverfront Art Festival Plans to Impress

Columbus, OH— This year is the fifth anniversary for the Riverfront Art Festival, and organizers say that they are prepared to celebrate with their biggest and best festival to date.

Festival Director Jay Snyder says that almost 100 more artists applied to participate in the 2010 festival than last year, even while most art festivals are receiving significantly fewer applications. “We have always juried for quality and kept our standards high, but this year you are going to see a really exceptional festival.” He adds that he believes the show has gained a national reputation among artists.

Slated to exhibit this year is some of Columbus’s top local talent, among artists from 26 states. Each will be selling their own works, including everything from contemporary oil paintings and sculpture to functional pottery and wearable items. Everything is handmade, one of a kind, and sold directly by the artist who created it.

Among several changes to the entertainment lineup, the festival will now include WaterFire on both Friday and Saturday nights. ”For the third year in a row WaterFire Columbus is delighted to partner with the Riverfront Arts Festival in mid-September." Says Mike Collins, executive director of WaterFire Columbus. "The combination of Central Ohio’s fastest growing arts festival and its premier downtown riverfront performing arts series continues to be a highlight of the city. Both elements are growing and the collective growth will make this a real artistic destination this year and for years to come.”

The festival will include performances from a diverse group of local and regional musical heavy-hitters, including Opera Columbus’s season preview, Ladies of Longford, renown Beatles tribute, “A Hard Day’s Night,” Sabrina Tutstone, Fo/Mo/Deep, Marble Park, and Slick Andrews and the Generators - among others.

“Over all, we couldn’t be much more excited about what this has turned into,” said Snyder, “five years is a milestone worth celebrating, but it isn’t a long time. We have developed faster than I imagined. I can’t wait to see what the tenth anniversary looks like.” With the completion of the Scioto Mile project slated for 2012, the sky is the limit.

The Riverfront Art Festival will open September 17, 2010 from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.; It reopens Saturday, September 18 from 12:00 to 10:00 p.m.; and Sunday, September 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Directions, artist list, and musical schedule are available at www.riverfrontartfestival.com

2010 Riverfront Art Festival Points of Interest

Location:
Genoa Park, West bank of the Scioto Mile, Behind COSI

Hours:
Friday Sept. 17 5p-10p, Saturday Sept. 18 12-10p, Sunday Sept. 19 12-5p

Producing organization:
The Riverfront Art Festival is produced by the By Hand Artisan Guild, a local nonprofit arts organization with the mission of promoting the appreciation, understanding and awareness of handmade fine art and craft, and supporting contemporary American working artists through educational and marketing opportunities.

Fifth Anniversary:
The Riverfront Art Festival began as a small festival of less than 70 artists in Goodale Park in 2006 (when it was called the Goodale Park Art Festival.) It moved and changed its name in 2008 in order to alleviate issues related to its rapid growth. Five years in it has more than doubled in size and added an incredible entertainment lineup as well as diverse food offerings. We are excited about the possibilities the Scioto Mile project will unlock for even more incredible offerings.

Artists:
The Riverfront Art Festival features approximately 150 artists, representing 26 states. While it is national in scope, 24 of the festival’s artists are local to Central Ohio. The Riverfront Art Festival believes that it is important to showcase the incredible amount of homegrown talent in Columbus. The festival is juried for quality and balance of mediums, and all of the work for sale must be handmade by the artist, who must be present at the festival. A complete list of exhibiting artists along with small photos of their work is available at www.riverfrontartfestival.com For more information on any of the festival’s artists please email info@byhandevents.com

WaterFire:
The Riverfront Art Festival began partnering with WaterFire Columbus in 2008 when it moved to Genoa Park. This relationship has grown and flourished, and this year we are pleased to offer WaterFire burns on both the Friday and Saturday nights of the festival.

Opera Columbus:
Opera Columbus made its debut at the festival in 2009. This year they return with a program that is sure to impress – a season preview featuring works from upcoming 2010-2011 concerts.

"We are very excited to be a part of the Riverfront Arts Festival and WaterFire Columbus for the 2nd consecutive year. It is with great pleasure that we share a preview of our 2010-2011 season with the community through a concert of Mozart, Gilbert & Sullivan, and Kurt Weill, featuring favorite local singers." – Bill Boggs, Artistic Director Opera Columbus.

Hard Day’s Night
Hard Day's Night is rated among the top national Beatles tribute groups performing today, and is dedicated to the Beatles' touring performance standard of playing without recordings or click tracks. The band performs songs from the 1962-1966 era exactly as the Beatles themselves did: four musicians onstage, in character as John, Paul, George, and Ringo, wearing perfect stitch-for-stitch replications of the suits made famous by the Beatles, with authentic Vox, Hofner, Gretsch, Rickenbacker, and Ludwig instruments, playing the world-famous songs note-for-note.

Ladies of Longford:
This all-women band's sound is mostly contemporary Celtic. Known for their beautiful adaptations of traditional Irish folk songs (some in Gaelic and a cappella), the Ladies also perform their own original Celtic pieces.

“We’re very excited to have the opportunity to join this growing partnership and share our Celtic music on the riverfront. The blending of the visual arts w/ our sound and the ambiance created by WaterFire will make for a perfect evening.” Hilda Doyle, Director, Ladies of Longford
