Tigard, Oregon, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 18, 2012 -- An easy 2.8 mile round-trip hike at the north end of Lincoln City. While the seven mile stretch of beach at Lincoln City is often breezy, even windy, in the afternoon, this area is mostly protected from the winds from the north and due to the lack of pedestrian traffic, surprisingly quiet.

At the intersection of Highway 101 and Logan Road is Lighthouse Square with Safeway, Rite-Aid and some shopping. Follow Logan Road for one mile to Roads End State Recreation Site which has a parking area to your left. A short path descends to the beach by a lazy little creek. Hike north (to your right) past the beachfront bank topped by cottages seemingly tumbled there by some frolicsome giant. The beach narrows to nothing at high tide at the base of the massive headland. However, if you time your hike appropriately, you can clamber around the tip of the headland to a hidden cove. Do not tarry too long or you will have to wait for the next low tide to wend your way back out. During low tide at the base of the headland you will find tide pools with sea stars, anemones and mussels (please do not disturb). In the ocean just out from the headland, you will see small, lava-formed islands occupied by the comical, long-necked cormorants drying their wings on the basalt pedestals.
