Rocky’s Retreat Helps Fight Dog Obesity with the Opening of Rocky’s Swim Camp

ORLANDO, FLA – February 1 2012− Rocky’s Swim camp is the newest program at Rocky’s Retreat, central Florida’s only canine health and fitness center. The swim camp is a daily "day camp" where dog parents can sign up for their dog to attend from 1 to 5 days a week. It's like doggie day care with a twist. It can include swimming, is exclusive, and limited to 10 dogs per day.

“Dog obesity is a growing problem for dogs. From a recent Huffington Post article, it has been estimated that over fifty percent of all dogs in America are overweight,” says Rocky’s Retreat owner, Sherri Cappabianca. “Dogs become overweight because of overfeeding and a lack of exercise.”

Overweight dogs suffer from heart, thyroid and other metabolic disorders such as diabetes, kidney failure, and cancer.

After a three month trial period, Sherri Cappabianca and Toby Gass , co-owners, are convinced the low-impact, high resistive exercise provided by Rocky’s Swim Camp is extremely effective in combating dog obesity.

Fran Henderson, a Guest Services Manager, at Walt Disney World, said she brings Cooper, her long-haired female Chihuahua because she needs Cooper to loose weight. “Cooper loves to swim and it is great exercise,” says Ms. Hernderson
