Royal wedding sparks last-minute betting frenzy
Royal wedding sparks last-minute betting frenzy
Not many of us would have bet on being given an extra day’s holiday this April. The royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton on 29 April has granted us exactly that.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 4, 2011 --In the lead up to the wedding, however, there certainly have been a lot of bets placed. According to leading online betting site, betting-offers.co.uk, there has been a frenzy of bets on exactly when the couple’s first-born child will arrive. More and more punters are placing bets as the wedding day draws closer, hoping to predict when Kate will provide William with his potential heir to the throne. The couple have made no secret in interviews with the press of their desire to try to start a family. The prince has announced that “we’ll take it one step at a time. We’ll get over the marriage first and then maybe look at the kids. But obviously we want a family, so we’ll have to start thinking about that.”
While not exactly a ringing endorsement of an intention to start a family immediately, there are other signs that have been noted by betting pundits and journalists alike. Kate has decided to stop working for her family business Party Pieces, but there have been no moves to prepare her for royal duties. The conspicuous absence of any announcement concerning these duties has served to fuel speculation that a royal birth may be expected sooner rather than later.
Kate has also made announcements about her love of family life and her desire for her and William to “be able to have a happy family ourselves.”
Age seems to be another factor: Kate turned 29 in January, while Diana was just 21 when she gave birth to William in 1982, and the average age for a woman to give birth to her first child in Britain is 27 – the age of Kate’s mother when she gave birth to her.
The experts are also noting that it may not be long until a child is born. Kate Middleton’s biographer Claudia Joseph has added the weight of her authority behind such a possibility. She has stated that she is “sure that Kate and William will be very keen to start a family as soon as possible”.
There certainly does seem to be all the right signs that William and Kate are intending to try for a family quickly. The betting odds currently reflect this. Betting Offers is currently quoting odds of 2-5 for the first birth to be before (and including) 1 April 2013 – which translates as a predicted 71% likelihood. Odds for a birth after this date are 7-4 – a rather less likely prediction of 36%.
