Russian protesters arrested for unsanctioned New Year’s Eve protest

(Free-Press-Release.com) January 2, 2012 -- BISMARCK, North Dakota (January 2, 2012) – Russian riot police arrested dozens of people on Saturday in Moscow and Saint Petersburg who tried to stage unsanctioned New Year's Eve protests against 12 years of Vladimir Putin's dominant rule, Yahoo! News reports.

Since the government allowed the happening of two major Russian rallies in late December 10 and December 24, Russian protesters were not met with brutal police force; apparently, the cops have had it when they started to stage an unanticipated rally transpiring during the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Chants of "Russia without Putin" and "We need another Russia" rang out at both events Saturday. Reports said that 200 people had also gathered in the central city of Nizhny Novgorod without being arrested, Yahoo! added.

According to the official tally o Moscow police force, a total of 60 people has been handcuffed and detained “after setting up an imposing cordon around the central Triumfalnaya Square”. Another report by AFP revealed that there were a dozen more people roughly ushered by armored troops in St. Petersburg.

The protest follows the recent winning of Russia’s current leader, Vladimir Putin. Protesters – with a large number coming up from Eduard Limonov’s disappointed supporters – were brought together by fear of another year of economic inequality as well as rampant poverty in all Russia.
