Same Outfit For 12 Months
Same Outfit For 12 Months
Spending money on clothes is not a problem for Sheena Matheiken who has vowed to wear the exact same dress for one year.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 7, 2010 --
Fashion takes on a new meaning of sustainability when 30 year old New York, Sheena Matheiken, agency creative director takes an oath to wear the same 'dress' every day for one year, using seven identical cotton tunics.
"I wanted to take the daily act of dressing up - a routine everyone relates to - and make it a part of something bigger, something more consequential", said Matheiken. "The repetitive model of a 365 day project brings viewers back on a regular basis, which made it a great platform for fundraising".
Using handmade or pre-owned accessories donated by readers, or purchased on eBay, Matheiken plans to reinvent the dress daily and post her efforts on her blog, The Uniform Project.
This is a walk for old times’ sake for Matheiken, when at a public school in India, she and her peers never permitted their compulsory uniforms to suppress their creativity.
The Akanksha Foundation has raised enough funds to put 109 slum-living children in India into school for one year, with over $40,000 collected to date.
Eliza Starbuck, consultant and designer, as well as the mastermind behind the dress and close friend of Matheiken, plans to continue the fund raising by producing and releasing the dress for sale. The dress can be worn either back or front, or as an open tunic. It has deep hidden pockets, as Matheiken has an aversion to carrying purses.
Viewers get the opportunity to rate the outfits and those who donate accessories get mentioned in the blog. Matheiken also asks viewers and other designers and friends to work with her and come up with interesting and original ensemble ideas.
The question remains however, what will Matheiken wear the first day of her release from her one year vow and will other fashion conscious ladies take up the innovative attempt of stretching their fashion dollar further?
