MyTeamConnects is a new email company that helps small business owners get email campaigns off the ground. The company last week submitted a one-minute video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtDGcvsKVwc) to the Biz Pitch contest sponsored by the San Antonio-based ACCION Business Center to get the word out about the effectiveness of email marketing and to show how the firm helps businesses use it successfully.

Theoretically, email marketing is easy to start. Yet over the past three years, helping small businesses get started with online email services became a full time job for Jen McGahan and Sam Maropis. In a departure from helping clients implement and use other email marketing services, in spring 2011 they began offering their own email creation and sending platform named MyTeamConnects.com.

The decision to start their own email marketing service was made because most busy small business owners don’t have the resources to easily begin or re-focus their online marketing strategies. Though it’s not a long and painful process, beginning email campaigns takes some time and thought, not to mention design and copywriting ability and certain HTML skills-- something that a lot of small business owners just don’t have time to learn or access.

Now they are hoping to win the ACCION contest – closely watching the “Like” tally on YouTube and hoping the judges see the value in their offering – to get their small company in front of more small business owners and prospective customers.

“The ‘Biz Pitch’ video was really fun to make. We were challenged to come up with a one-minute pitch, which is a useful and economical skill for a new business like ours to gain exposure...and as a byproduct we learned iMovie techniques,” Maropis said.

“We’re excited to be a part of the ACCION Biz Pitch competition, no matter how it turns out. We’re always pitching our business to new people, but this has challenged us to step up our own marketing; it’s been fun,” said Jen McGahan of MyTeamConnects. And if they do win? “The prize money certainly wouldn’t hurt; we’d love to hire an account manager to help us out!”

Roxana Newton from ACCION commented, “We’ve had a good response to the competition and are looking forward to the luncheon. The event supports entrepreneurship and community; and features many excellent business leaders and speakers from the local area.”
