Because the Redlands Animal Shelter is a municipal shelter operated by the city’s Police Animal Control Unit, their responsibilities extend beyond pet adoption. This unit provides the city with quality animal services while maintaining a healthy, safe and happy environment for the many stray and homeless animals the shelter acquires. In addition, the Redlands Animal Shelter educates the public on proper pet care, sterilization, vaccinations, licensing and laws pertaining to animals and their welfare.

To honor the service of military personnel and veterans in their community, the Redlands Animal Shelter offers Pets for Patriots’ members a discounted $35 adoption fee and ‘day one’ essentials care package.

Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care & Adoption Center is another area Pets for Patriots municipal shelter partner in San Bernardino County. Their responsibilities include animal control, pet adoptions and community education, as well as low-cost microchipping, spay/neuter vouchers and information on how to identify and report animal cruelty.

Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care & Adoption Center will waive all adoption fees for Pets for Patriots’ members.

Helping veterans and service members afford their adopted pets
To reduce the costs of purchasing pet food, supplies and other essentials, Pets for Patriots provides direct financial support to veterans who join its program and honorably adopt eligible dogs and cats. Individuals may apply to Pets for Patriots from any United States armed forces and at any stage of their careers. Eligible adoptions include a dog or cat at least two years old, dogs over 40 pounds regardless of age, and special needs pets. Joining Pets for Patriots is free.

Members receive ongoing, discounted medical care for their honorably adopted pet from two Pets for Patriots’ veterinary partners in the San Bernadino area. The Loma Linda Animal Hospital extends an ongoing, 15% reduction in their customary fees and the Archibald Pet Hospital in Alta Loma offers an ongoing 10% discount.

“With the help of our wonderful partners, we hope to bring the joys of companion pet adoption to the many veterans and service members living in San Bernardino County,” says Beth Zimmerman, founder and executive director of Pets for Patriots. “while at the same time saving adult and other at-risk dogs and cats that are most overlooked for adoption.”

Those interested in the program must first apply through Pets for Patriots and provide proof of their military service. Approval typically takes two business days, after which veterans can work with the San Bernardino member shelters for assistance in choosing their new best friend and visit their member veterinarians for ongoing quality care.
