During this training, a significant portion of the training is spent on plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures of this region. Completion of this residency proves the surgeon's eligibility by the American Board of Medical Subspecialties (ABMS) to practice Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery. The individual must then pass rigorous written and oral board examinations. For those who want to focus exclusively on Facial Plastic Surgery, will then go on to complete a Fellowship sponsored by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in Advanced Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This Fellowship is offered to only 45 individuals per year. Following completion of the Fellowship, the surgeon must once again pass demanding written and oral examinations. Finally they must submit a surgical log demonstrating that they have successfully completed one hundred[/] consecutive facial plastic surgery cases in a 2 year period. The surgeon then becomes Board Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Karam is Board Certified by both the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons as well as The American Board of Medical Subspecialties to practice Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery.
