OAKLAND, CA – The San Pablo Arts District Fund (SPAD) is proud to host the fourth chapter of its ongoing reading series, Lip Service West: True Stories, Friday, December 10, 2010, at 8 p.m., at 5512 San Pablo Avenue in North Oakland’s Golden Gate District. This free event will feature readers Cara Cameron, David Corbett, Timothy Crandle, Sean Craven, and Kelley Ramsey.

Originating in Los Angeles, made famous in Miami, Lip Service West is now in the Bay Area. The forum provides writers, professional and amateur alike, a platform to share their work, unfiltered, uninterrupted, and unapologetic. The stories are all true and no subject is off limits.

LSW is made possible by the San Pablo Arts District Fund, which is dedicated to promoting the arts and facilitating economic development in the Golden Gate District. SPAD converts empty storefronts along the San Pablo corridor, transforming vacant space into functional galleries.

Lip Service West embraces SPAD’s community development philosophy, offering people from all walks of life a place to tell their stories and experience art.

Submissions are open. Guidelines can be found at www.lipservicewest.com

“Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, Lip Service West promises to be unlike any literary event you’ve ever experienced,” says Lip Service producer Joe Clifford.

Cara Cameron writes nonfiction vignettes about her life. A native of the Bay Area, she graduated from San Francisco State University in 2009 with a degree in International Relations. In September 2009, Cara set out vagabonding through South America, returning home from Scotland more than a year later in October 2010. She currently lives in Los Angeles, California. Her work can be found at www.caracameron.com

David Corbett is a recovering Catholic/ex-PI/former bar-band gypsy and—lest we forget—a novelist, poet and screenwriter. Nominated for virtually every major prize in crime-writing, he would hate to ruin things by actually winning one, though having a New York Times Notable Book and a story in Best American Mystery Stories is kinda sweet. He has four novels under his belt (which frees up room on his bookshelf)—the most recent being 2010’s Do They Know I'm Running? (“a hard-hitting epic”—Publishers Weekly)—and routinely gets compared to Graham Greene, Robert Stone, Dashiell Hammett and Telly Savalas. Feel daring? Go to: www.davidcorbett.com

Timothy Crandle is the winner of the Jack Dyer Fiction Prize from Crab Orchard Review, the Waasmode Prize from Passages North and second prize in the Zoetrope: All-Story Short Fiction Contest. He is the founder of Babylon Salon, a San Francisco reading series. He lives and writes in Oakland.

Sean Craven is a former manual laborer forced to turn writer/artist. His art has appeared everywhere from galleries to paleontological databases, his cartoon scripts have been broadcast on the BBC, and his novel-in-progress is a requested manuscript at Tor Books. Cleaning toilets paid better. Oh, well.

Kelley Ramsey is currently enrolled in the Master’s program at San Francisco State University for social psychology. While her work has yet to be published in any respectable publication, she hopes to one day to have her own soapbox column. This is her first foray into the world of autobiographical fodder. Kelley is also a Trekkie.
