Memoir Tackles Stigma of Mental Illness: The San Ramon Patch honors Peggy Kennedy, San Franciso Bay Area author of ““Approaching Neverland: A Memoir of Epic Tragedy and Happily Ever After” in their la

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 23, 2010 -- Jennifer Wadsworth, of the San Ramon Patch, recently reviewed “Approaching Neverland: A Memoir of Epic Tragedy and Happily Ever After” by San Francisco Bay area's own Peggy Kennedy. The review could not have been more timely, given that Kennedy's book was just awarded the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award by NABE (North American Bookdealers Exchange). Apparently, Ms. Wadsworth has her finger on the pulse of what people want. “Approaching Neverland” is no exception.

Although “Approaching Neverland” was only released about a year ago, it has already received numerous awards. All for good reason. The book is an honest and often frightening look at what it was like to live with a mother with bipolar disorder, three siblings who were gay, the murder of one of those siblings, the death (by way of AIDS) of another, and the many challenges they all faced at a time when mental illness was neither discussed or understood.

The fact that Kennedy had the courage to write this memoir is testimony to the “happily ever after” part. She not only weathered her storms, she came out of them having more courage, more authenticity, and, perhaps most importantly, a passion to help others learn from her trials. She spends much of her time and energy educating those who face similar challenges. Not only those who suffer from mental disorders, but their families and loved ones too. She also supports NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of consumers, families, and friends of people suffering from mental illness.

Ms. Wadsworth did the book justice. Her review is a testament to authors who write from their authentic selves and bare their truths, however painful, for all the world to see.
