The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act is an extension of George W. Bush’s vision in 2004 for all Americans to have electronic health records by 2014. The HITECH Act, which is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, is important health care legislation because of the funding. $677 Million has been allocated for payment directly to health care providers as incentives for electronic health record adoption. On the other hand, if the providers don’t implement electronic health record software by 2015, there will be penalties.
