Santa Hunt Day 16: Santa Escapes from Ted Burns!

Ted Burns, the thinking man’s wildly-conjecturing investigative journalist, is still on the trail of Father Christmas, also known to headline writers and appellation-lovers everywhere as the Wintery Warlord. His crimes: using elves as hockey sticks, wilfully allowing his reindeer to get mange and failing to return on time to numerous pay-and-display car parks across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. After several starts so false they looked suspiciously like the end, Ted has finally found Santa’s lair, and stormed it with Inspector Gorse, head of Scotland Yard’s festive manhunt team, and Robin, his eternally disappointed assistant. Oh, and a hessian sack. And some gaffer tape. And an extra-large hammer. It’s gripped.

Only it might not be. Santa’s high-speed sleigh, rumoured to be powered exclusively by the tears of small children and liquidised issues of Ashley Cole’s autobiography (also now available in most good pulping plants), appears to have spirited the Big Man away before Robin and the dear Inspector can get their hands on him. It may have helped if Robin hadn’t fallen down the stairs, of course. And if Inspector Gorse hadn’t fallen over Robin. To add insult to their respective injuries, a recording from Father Christmas makes it clear he knows all about Ted, his quest, and his love for Lucille Tumbletee, the celebrity wood-whittler. Can Ted come up with a new plan? And maybe some plasters for Robin?
