The National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Metro DC Chapter (NARI Metro DC) has named Schroeder Design/Build, Inc., in Fairfax, VA, a 2012 œContractor of the Year (CotY) in the Grand and Finalist categories at its annual awards competition.
Schroeder Design/Build is a full service design/build firm serving Northern Virginia since 1986. Their goal is to produce home remodeling projects that are as stress-free as possible.
The Grand award for Creative Solutions under $15,000 was earned for the design team's creation of more space for a master bedroom closet. The Finalist Award was granted for the transformation of an existing fireplace to a modern and sleek feel, which created a contemporary craftsman style and enhances the living room area.

The awards ceremony was held January 12, 2013 at the Dulles Hilton where a sold out crowd was wowed by before and after photos of the winning projects. This annual formal event offers an opportunity for the industry to honor their own and be inspired by design ideas showcased. From œgreen projects to small bath and kitchen remodeling, from million dollar make-overs to simple basement improvements, this program reflects the best remodeling of the Metro DC area.
For the coveted CotY Awards, contractors competed in 34 categories and all projects submitted for judging constituted an improvement or an addition to an existing structure, with the exception of one category, œResidential Exterior Specialty and new construction projects were not eligible. An impartial panel of judges, who are experts within the industry and associated fields, selected the winners based on entrants' binders, which included œbefore and after photography and project descriptions.
