It's just been launched in eight languages, but more to come soon, promise Danish Journalist Hans Henrik Lichtenberg, who has been responsible for collecting and research of the many search engines and catalogs.

"I discovered that there was a need for this site when I some years ago was looking for newspapers in all countries for www.newspaperindex.com. The lists of search engines, I could find were either not complete or were not updated. I would do differently, among other things, update regularly and keep users informed when there is something new, "says journalist Hans Henrik Lichtenberg.
The strict requirements for the search engines means that from each of the 220 countries around the world the site will usually only will present from 10 to 30 search engines and catalogs.
"It is for example interesting that the very small countries in Africa do not actually have their own search engines with unique search technology. Instead there is a pan-African search engines and Western search engines have versions that meet its needs."

Searchenginesindex.com has done an effort to find the general search engines and the more special. There is focus on presenting both the very small search engines in minor languages alongside the local version of Google for instance.
www.searchenginesindex.com is expected to be used by students, researchers, and not least for SEO of individuals and companies who want to make sure that their websites can be found in the most used search engine worldwide.
