(Free-Press-Release.com) March 30, 2010 --
Local non-profit Project Shero™ is honored and excited to have Cirque du Soleil ® returning to their WonderChild® - Dream Explorer™ program to help motivate kids of all ages to have big dreams for their lives, and teach them those dreams are achievable. This program will be full of fun learning about and understanding the world of Cirque while exploring this dream for them. An estimated 225 kids from the Boys & Girls Club are expected to attend on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 10:20 a.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Boys & Girls Club (2980 E. Robindale Road).
Second Time is the Charm as Cirque du Soleil ® Teams Up with Project Shero™ for the WonderChild ® - Dream Explorer™ Program
The program will include learning about Cirque du Soleil® from Social Action and Responsibility Coordinator Meggan Riley. Riley will share fun facts about their organization and one of the company’s main sources of pride, the Cirque du Monde program which helps young people forge new links with society via the circus arts. The kids will also meet Treasure Island’s Mystère performers Jamar Young and Dina Emerson to hear about life as a performer first hand. Both performers and Riley will introduce their WonderChild Dream Cards™ (like baseball cards, but with dreams.)
The WonderChild ® - Dream Explorer™ programs are bringing kids in direct contact with successful, real life role models who can inspire them and help them experience the dreams they are living first hand. This coed program is sponsored by NV Energy.
Dream Explorers is an extension of the message of the Wonderchild® - SHEROES®, which has a community outreach to at-risk girls ages 6-14; empowering their dreams and their self-images while building self-efficacy, the belief that one can influence their own thoughts and behaviors. Outcomes in the WonderChild® – SHEROES® program have included one young girl having the courage to report child abuse in her family after one - three hour program.
“The girls and boys at the club will have the opportunity to enter an essay contest about dreams for their lives," says program founder Eileen Oser. "Several kids participating in the essay contest will be surprised with an opportunity be transformed by Cirque make-up artists and be a circus performer for the day. It will be a fun circus atmosphere."
