Seminar Targeting Illegal Drug Use in Atmore, AL

Cities all over the United States have been creating meetings, conferences and seminars regarding one common subject: drug abuse, which is damaging many aspects of a once safe, happy and healthy community. Although drugs are nothing new in the United States, as of lately, there has been considerable growth in cases of abuse, arrest and rehabilitation admissions. Older drug trends, from heroin and cocaine, still linger for many Alabama citizens, but paired with the newly popular drugs such as pain killers and meth, which is booming especially in the southeast, many cities have raised panic on the issue of drug abuse.

In Atmore, Alabama, justice and drug court personnel lead a seminar aimed at their community about the increase in illegal drug use. As with many other places across the country, many people have finally begun to acknowledge how drug use made its way into the community and essentially opened a can of worms that no person could ignore.

Judge Bert Rice reached out to those attending the meetings saying œThere is not one in this room who does not know someone who is addicted or involved with drugs. His statement is largely accurate and is easily applicable to nearly every person nationwide. As it is projected that for every addicted person, 25 people are impacted by the dependency the rising epidemic of drug use is negatively effecting every home and city.

As states work to implement cutting edge ways to educate doctors, patients, students, and civilians alike, there is only so much that can be done without violating personal rights. Even with increased police efforts to search and seize illegal drug operations, the sneaky become sneakier with each added difficulty. The problem of children experimenting with drug abuse has also remained a considerable risk for households as well.

One speaker at the seminar brought in the perspective of dealing with a younger brother who was addicted to crack cocaine. Children and young adults have been known to adopt the mind frame that they will try anything once, and experimenting to understand how a drug works on the body isn't bad“ its œknowledge. Those who are experienced with dealing with drug addiction whether by their own suffering or through suffering of a loved one can unanimously agree that this mind frame is dangerous and most often will lead to bad choices, and even worse addictions.

The goal of this seminar, and the many others held around the nation, are to educate community members on the severity of illegal drug use. It must be understood that doing drugs for fun or œfor the experience will never be a justified reason to put a life, or many lives, in danger. While government officials do their best to eliminate drugs on the streets, the best thing that communities and individuals can do is spread the knowledge and information about the dangers involved with drugs.
