Orlando, FL – For the second consecutive year, an HR Florida State Council District Director is recognized by The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for having advanced SHRM initiatives and the HR Florida State Council mission. The HR Florida State Council proudly congratulates Kelly Marcoux, MMC, PHR, the 2011 Southeast Region Territory A - District Director of the Year. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) could not be successful without the hard work and support of the volunteer leaders. The District Directors (DDs) are particularly important volunteers, as they are the primary contact in their states for the chapter presidents. SHRM relies on the DDs, like Mrs. Marcoux, to provide SHRM membership presentations, support and guidance to chapter boards, and much more. This award recognizes DDs who epitomize the volunteer role. Her contributions during the past year have advanced SHRM initiatives and the HR Florida State Council mission.

As Human Resources Director for the City of Bushnell, Mrs. Marcoux has held her current position since 2003 and has been a City employee since 1996. Mrs. Marcoux, who grew up in Bushnell, is also responsible for Risk Management within the City. Risk Management is responsible for identifying and reducing the City’s exposure to financial loss by ensuring that the City is in compliance with the Federal and State Occupational and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Environmental Regulation codes as they relate to safety in the workplace, and the overall operations of the City. Her division is responsible for reviewing and maintaining adequate insurance coverage against accidental or unforeseen circumstances; processing insurance claims and assisting insurance carriers in investigating these claims. In addition to these responsibilities, she has formerly served as Assistant City Clerk, City of Bushnell; Bushnell Library Board Member; Sumter County School Board Technical Advisory Board Member and Former City of Bushnell Pension Board Member.

District Director, District 4 – Upon promotion to HR Director in 2003, Mrs. Marcoux reached out to the Lake Sumter SHRM Chapter and Past President of HR Florida, Kitty Fields, for professional development and support. For several years, Mrs. Marcoux served as Foundation Chair for Lake Sumter SHRM before advancing to Chapter President in 2009 and then District Director for HR Florida in 2010. During 2011, Mrs. Marcoux assisted her chapters through significant transitional and political struggles. Not one, but two of her chapters experienced mid-year leadership changes. Her calm, organized and deliberate communication style resulted in a well-planned approach and execution of corrective strategies. Because of her guidance, these chapters continued to meet and even surpass their goals. Mrs. Marcoux’s chapter members agree, “When Kelly has the lead, everyone clearly understands their assignment and the expectation for success. She deserves much credit for a successful chapter member experience in District 4, in spite of challenge."

Leadership Conference 2012 Speaker Assignment – HR Florida District Directors serve as the SHRM Affiliate’s Leadership Conference planning committee. Mrs. Marcoux spearheaded the search for the 2012 Conference keynote speaker. As suggestions came in, she researched options, reviewed videos, read bios, and conducted interviews with finalists. Once the selection was made, Mrs. Marcoux maintained contact with the speaker’s agent, ensuring a satisfactory result. Because of her diligence, The HR Florida State Council secured a nationally renowned speaker who enhanced the conference experience for all chapter leaders.

Time management, accountability and availability are Mrs. Marcoux’s keys to successful leadership. She also credits her ability to find humor in stressful situations as a secret to diffusing those situations. Mrs. Marcoux looks forward to continuing her contributions to HR Florida and SHRM as she advances the profession by developing strong, viable chapter leadership in District 4.

Mrs. Marcoux balances the many duties of leadership with an equal dedication to family fun on the weekends. As a dedicated wife, mother of three adult daughters, three step-sons, one step-daughter and double-digit grandchildren, Mrs. Marcoux believes that family is the most important thing in life.

The HR Florida State Council is honored to serve alongside Kelly Marcoux and congratulates her as the 2011 SHRM Southeast Region -A- District Director of the Year. Mrs. Marcoux exhibits all of the characteristics of a valued volunteer and has worked diligently to support the HR Florida State Council.
