Billionaire's Row, Jaye Goldson, S.W. Roseburgh and The Loop present "Sips for Sickle Cell 2011" a holiday fundraiser for the Children of the Cohen's Children's NS/LIJ Hospital Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program.

On December 20th this marquee event will kick off the holiday week with an evening of fellowship and fundraising for the children of our Tri-State community. Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center is the premier children’s hospital in the NY tri-state area. This holiday season, the CCMC Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program will treat over 400 patients with approximately 30 children who will spend the holiday season in the medical center for treatment.

Sickle Cell Disease is often called the "forgotten disease" but is in fact the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States. Sickle cell disease, SCD, is a genetic blood disorder in which there aren't enough red blood cells to transmit oxygen throughout the body. A mistake in the gene causes cells to form into rigid and sticky crescent- or sickle-shaped cells which cause blockages and prevent oxygen from being distributed throughout the body. For thousands of children, living with SCD means a lifetime of painful episodes, blood transfusions and frequent trips to the hospital. These treatments can often cause complications that are just as bad or worse than the effects of the disease itself. As a mission, we would like to raise funds for the CCMC Sickle Cell Program and provide its child patients with a happy holiday season. Please join member of your community along with celebrity guests as we make this holiday season a little brighter and garner support for the overall Sickle Cell Program at Cohen’s Children’s Hospital.
