Six easy steps that will tell you what to do with OBD II code reader

February 26,2013

It sounds quite astonishing if someone tells you that his car never troubles him. It's hard to believe so. When you cannot start your car and the worse is when you do not know what's wrong with it

An OBD II diagnostic system is designed as well as considered to keep a strict eye on the performance your car and warn the driver about the current and potential troubles. It is capable of locating every kind of problem codes of your vehicle but an important thing required is OBD ii Code Reader which helps to modify the trouble codes. You will be able to locate the trouble codes but will not be able to fix them without OBD ii Code Reader.

OBD ii Code Reader is accessible as a personal handheld reader or as expert readers for auto technicians. Now for connecting it with your vehicle you would need a cable or PC with OBD II software. Now there are six simple steps to connect OBD ii Code Reader depending on the cars model.

First step: Make sure that your vehicle is connected with the OBD II system. On the driver's side near the center support you will find the cars compliant with OBD II will have a 16 pin connector.

Second step: locating the 16-pin connector.

It is sometimes quite difficult to locate the female connector with 16 pins, because its location varies according to different car models. For some cars it is under the seat, or the driver's foot area, for some cars it is between the area of the passenger seat and driver's seat or behind the ash tray, under the passenger seat or over the passenger door. I think it should be mandated by law that the connector should be under three feet diameter of the driver's seat.

Third step: checking the connector for the available pins.

The most important pins are pin 5 and pin 4 for grounding and male pin-16 which is for the power supply from your vehicles battery.

Fourth step: Connecting your OBD ii Code Reader.

You will have to plug in the end of the male connector with 16 pins with the female connector with 16 pins you found in the car during the second step. Then connect the other end of the male connector with 16 pins with OBD ii Code Reader. If you find it difficult connecting the OBD ii Code Reader then use your PC as well. This can be done with the help of Bluetooth or a USB connector. But one thing to mark here is that OBD II software is necessary for this.

Fifth step: waiting for the reader to modify.

The reader will check the diagnostic system of your vehicle and find out the protocol to use and then it will connect.

Sixth step: checking your manual service for the clarification of the code.

When you are choosing the OBD ii Code Readers you should check its practical usage. All code readers do not have the same function but specialize in specific functional areas.
