FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) August 26, 2011 -- Atlanta, August 25, 2011 – Experts are learning that snoring may be an indication of something more serious happening with individuals. Sleep apnea is a type of sleep disorder where breathing is blocked during sleep.

Sleep apnea affects over 18 million people in the U.S. and comes in three forms: mixed, obstructive, and central. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common form for people of all ages. When a person who has OSA goes to sleep, the tissue at the back of their throat closes and creates a blockage. The result is a stop in breathing or reduced breathing.

Common symptoms of sleep apnea include but are not limited to: Excessive sleepiness especially during the daytime, feeling tired, fatigued, and groggy after waking from sleep. It can include poor concentration and attention, nighttime or morning headaches, sweating and chest pain while an individual is sleeping, insomnia or having to get up in the middle of the night to urinate. Additionally, restless tossing and turning while sleeping, episodes of not breathing while sleep (this can occur as few as 3-5 times per hour), the number of episodes determines the severity of an individual’s apnea, nighttime gasping or choking spells, loud snoring (Please note that not all people who snore have sleep apnea).

It is extremely important that anyone who thinks they may have this disorder seek sleep apnea treatment. It is very important because if left untreated, it could lead to long-term complications that include but are not limited to: heart attack, irregular heart rate, pulmonary hypertension, ischemic heart disease, even death. Snoring could be the result of a much more serious condition requiring sleep apnea treatment options or ear dizziness treatment.
