A recent study of property crimes showed that suspects entering stores by breaking the front door glass could have been effectively prevented by a security gate. Lock it, or lose it.
Many cops say the explosive growth of highly-addictive drugs is responsible for much of the increase in crime. Others cite the downturn in the economy. Either way, burglary is on the rise.
“According to the National Association of Counties, forty-seven percent of county sheriffs report meth as their number one drug problem,” says a press release by the U.S. Department of Justice. “ Forty-five states show a ninety percent increase in meth-related crime in the past three years.”
Atlanta
In 2006, there were 17 so-called “smash and grab” burglaries in Atlanta, causing more than $51,000 in damages and losses.
By 2008, according to Sen. Preston Smith, that number jumped to 130 such burglaries with more than $1.4 million worth of windows broken and merchandise stolen.
Smith estimates that of the 363 retail burglaries in 2008, about 44 percent of them were smash and grab.
Police have encouraged business owners to upgrade their security by providing visible deterrence. Sliding gates coupled with a simple alarm system it seems, is the most cost effective means of deterring the smash and grab thief. Breaking the glass, then having to get through a gate with the prospect of an alarm sounding around them eliminates their quick in-and-out M.O.. Security grills, folding gates, window security bars, burglar bars and slide gates ... work.
Los Angeles
The upscale neighborhoods of Los Angeles are not immune to the smash and grab phenomena. The Beverly Press reports that there have been a "rash" of smash and grab burglaries in swanky neighborhoods. According to news reports, burglars have smashed the front windows of high end fashion stores on the posh 8400 block of Melrose Ave. grabbing expensive merchandise, then quickly fleeing the scene before law enforcement could even react.
Throughout the country smash and grab crime has steadily increased while other, more violent crimes have declined. An emerging new company, XpandaUSA.com has recently introduced a new product to meet the ever increasing needs of business owners during these trying times. XpandaUSA window security bars and folding gates offer the bold deterrent needed to secure one's inventory. Today, XpandaUSA.com is searching for distributors throughout the country to sell and install folding gates, window security bars, burglar bars and slide gates. With several cities throughout the U.S. adopting crime prevention legislation, the prospects for Xpanda-style folding security gates may become the latest attractive alternative to the ugly metal roll-down gates of yesterday.
