So what does 4G mean for m learning and m training?

February 20,2013

As we move from a tied to a desktop world to an on the move and on demand world on the face of it 4G has to be a good thing for business and training.

So what does 4G mean for m learning and m training?

Currently for people delivering training the end user is using either 3G or WiFi. Technically, when it arrives, the claim is that 4G will be 10 times faster and more robust. This means that people who want to watch training as opposed to read training will have a far better experience.

The world has gone mobile and its only a matter of time before we will be relying totally on our tablets and smart phones. The cynics will tell you, and have been for some time, that this technology will not catch on. One high street chain was reported to be selling tablets over Christmas at the rate of five a minute.

When the Kindle arrived people said that it would not work as it's not the same as turning a page. Tell that to millions of happy Kindle owners today. Business now not only depends on online sales but also mobile sales as well. Any business that does not have a mobile offer is going the way of the dinosaur.

Training using smart phones and tablets is already here and set to grow quickly. The reasons are simple. It's available 24 /7. It can be updated in hours not weeks and it can delivered to the palm of your hand. Imagine walking up to a product and being able to scan it and find out how to use it there and then.

The other attraction for students is there is no need to go to training, you can learn at your own speed when and wherever it suits you and always go back for a second look. Training in this way will be the next super growth industry, it just makes sense.

True 4G is still in the pipeline and the major players still have to kiss and makeup after the auction but the technology is coming and I for one say great. Bring it on.
