Society of St. Vincent de Paul Rolls Out National Vehicle Donation Program; Contributions Tied Directly to Donor’s Location

December 1, 2010

Donate Your Car or Vehicle to Charity SVDP Society Serving the Poor

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 1, 2010 -- ST. LOUIS, MO. ― Anyone who wants to get rid of an old car, lighten the tax burden for the year, and do something good for others during the holidays can accomplish all three through the national vehicle donation program operated by the National Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP).
Donating a car to SVdP is as easy as 1, 2, 3, donors can do so in 10 minutes or less, and no car will be refused:
1. Log on to www.svdpusacars.com and fill out the easy online form, or call toll free (800) 322-8284.

2. SVdP will arrange to have the vehicle picked up in 24 hours.
3. The tax forms will be filled out and sent to you.
SVdP’s program differs from similar programs in several important respects:
• It’s both a fundraiser and a way of assisting those in need. Depending on the need, the donation may translate into program or services dollars, providing essential needs such as food, shelter, housing, care for the elderly, or medicine. Or, if it’s desired by a local SVdP, the donation can provide transportation to someone in need, allowing them the dignity of keeping a job to support his or her family.

• The donated vehicle, or the money generated from it, will stay locally. When a donor enters a zip code, monies raised will be credited to the SVdP associated with that location.
“The clients served by the Society benefit from the impact of more than 146,000 members in some 4,600 communities throughout the United States,” said Joe Flannigan, national president of SVdP. “We already take in about 16,000 vehicles across the country at our various SVdP locations every year, which represents one of the largest car donation undertakings of its kind. The additional revenue we expect to generate from our national vehicle donation program means we can provide even greater services for the poor beyond the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter.”

SVdP chose Insurance Auto Auctions (IAA), one of the largest and most reputable companies of its kind in North America, to administer and manage the vehicle donation program.

IAA sells each vehicle for the highest price possible by supporting a competitive auction for global buyers at more than 140 locations in the United States which sell in excess of one million vehicles per year. In addition, IAA evaluates each donated vehicle through its ‘Best Venue Decision,’ which allows it to sell a vehicle either through its salvage auctions or its sister company, ADESA whole car auctions. Insurance Auto Auctions’ Donation Division has successfully partnered with hundreds of charities for the past 15 years. In addition to being a critical component in IAA’s service to the community, vehicle donations improve the environment by keeping billions of pounds of vehicle waste out of landfills.
