Solar Update In Pennsylvania From Open Sky Energy

February 26, 2010

This is a brief update of the status of solar energy in Pennsylvania, brought to you by Open Sky Energy.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 26, 2010 -- The Pennsylvania Sunshine Program opened its doors in June and has been very active for the last 7 months. The PA DEP has received over a 1000 residential applications state-wide. With the small staff, the program was slow to start, but the department has made huge adjustments to continue the success and promote solar. Some of the highlights of the program thus far:

- $2.25 rebate per installed watt for level 1. (The PA DEP average rebate is $13,500 based on an average residential system size of 6kW)
- Implemented a state inspection program for installed systems

- Applicants have started to receive their rebate checks

The Federal Solar Tax Credit has been updated this year. The credit was extended to 12/31/2016 and the $2000 cap was removed. You can now take a full 30% of the total installation cost and use that credit towards offsetting your federal tax liability.

We would like to introduce the AEC's or Alternative Energy Credits. Per the Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard, electrical utilities are required to produce energy from alternative sources other then traditional coal. By 2021, utility companies must show that 18% of this energy being produced comes from alternative sources such as solar, wind , small hydro among others. This is where the individual solar system owner can help the utility companies meet this 18% mandate. For every megawatt hour (1000 kilowatt hours) your system generates, you will receive a green credit that can be sold to utility companies to help them meet the portfolio standard. Within the past year, these credits have been traded within the range of $230 to $300 which is an additional benefit to a system owner. For more information - PA AEC's .

Open Sky Energy has been actively installing and helping our customers through the state application process. We can proudly say our customers that have completed the state process with us have had their systems inspected and received rebate checks. All of our installed systems have been generating clean energy daily and saving our customers money. Please take some time to check our new gallery section for some of our installs over the last year - http://OpenSkyEnergy.net.

We wanted to take a moment to reach out to all who expressed an interest in solar with Open Sky Energy before the state program opened. The PA sunshine rebate program has received 75% of the allowed applications for level one ($2.25 per watt). Once level one is full, the program will step down to level two reducing the rebate amount to $1.75 per watt. You can follow the applications received on the PA DEP website at - PA Sunshine Program.
