Mumbai, 12th Jan 2012 : This year Sonu Nigam has been generous to be part of the initiative of the Rotary Club of Mumbai’s, Nariman Point (RCMNP) fund raising for supporting various social causes like establishing human milk banks, rainwater harvesting, solar energy projects, blood donation camps etc. This Sankrati, to support and garner funds for these causes, RCMNP is organizing a grand concert along with Sonu Nigam on the 14th Jan, 2012, at the RWITC (Turf Club), 7pm onwards.
RCMNP causes have been unique, that have immensely benefited all sections of the society. Their initiatives have always been exclusive, one of them being the “Human Milk Bank”. It is a first of its kind project and they are the first club to start this truly unique project.

This initiative arose from the need of catering to premature babies and non lactating mothers. Research has shown that over 15 % babies born in India are premature, and have to be treated in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. Also, the birth rate by Caesarean delivery has been on the rise in all metros. Due to this babies are deprived of mother’s milk, which is vital for natural growth of a baby. Human Milk Bank plays an important role here for non-lactating mothers and their new born, by providing milk which reduces infection in new born babies who are hospitalized.
Having established three human milk banks at J.J. Hospital, Cama Hospital & Dinanath Mangeshker Hospital at Pune already, they are gearing up for a few more. They also have other interesting initiatives like Rain Water Harvesting, Solar Energy Projects, Save-A-Tree, Vocational Training Seminars, Donation of Dialysis Machines, Mid-Day Meal, Aanganwadi’s, Polio Corrective Surgeries & Jaipur Foot, Blood Donation Camps, Nirog - Mega Medical Camps For Masses, Mobile Dispensary, Computerisation of various schools, etc.

These projects have been high cost intensive which RCMNP are successfully executing. Year on year to generate funds RCMNP have been organizing fund raising events. These events have been a success with generous participation from all.
