FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – November 6, 2009 – Highland Park, IL - Spex, the premier destination for luxury eyewear and sunwear, holds the next installment of ART+VISION with works by artist Carole Pearlman. The opening reception is on Friday, December 4 from 7 - 9:30 pm, at 1819 St. Johns Ave.; 847-266-6400; www.spexchicago.com. Her work will be on view until January 15, 2010. Appetizers will be provided by City Park Grill. Two eyewear trunk shows will take place: Seraphin brings their retro-inspired line to the North Shore; and kids’ frames from Ogi eyewear will feature new designs for 2010.

Carole Pearlman’s lifelong fascination with painting began as a child in a neighborhood art class. Many classes later, Carole completed a BFA in painting and subsequent advanced degrees in Education and Psychology. Integrating the disciplines of art, education, and psychology, Carole developed “The Joy of Creativity” art program. Through her teaching, research and daily practice she believes that being creative is an essential part of a balanced life. With this in mind, Carole’s mixed media paintings reflect a response to life’s experiences and everyday observations while balancing a palette of strong colors and spontaneous movement of lines and shapes. Adding humor and explosive energy, her work is filled with passion and a commitment to the pursuit of play in every painting. Carole’s work is a synthesis of formal training and free expression.

Optician Yana Litvinova says, “The playful, free-spirited qualities of Carole’s work will definitely add a vibrant energy to the store. Our customers seem to appreciate that we continue in our efforts to support local artists, and we plan on keeping to our mission of community outreach through in-store events like this.” Through Art+Vision, Spex seeks to provide local talent a diverse and receptive audience within the context of a unique retail environment. Spex has always believed in the importance of encouraging the talent that drives all creative endeavors. These well-attended shows are largely due to local creatives who are given a platform for exposure and community connection.

Spex is synonymous with offering artfully crafted eyewear and sun wear to a stylish and discerning public with an eye for beauty and function. Their product selection ranges from sleek and minimal to vibrant and eclectic. Style and function merge in unparalleled designer collections from season to season, while attentive and knowledgeable customer service rounds out the experience for the fashion-forward shopper. Dr. Marnee Velick, specializing in primary eye care, is the in-house optometrist and encourages all customers to come in for a comprehensive eye exam. Most major medical and routine vision insurances are accepted.
