SPRINGFIELD, MO, APRIL 15, 2011: Local police and firefighters will trade in their uniforms for jerseys on May 7 at the Plaster Sports Complex when the Springfield Police will take on Joplin’s police and firefighters in the Guardian Bowl, a first annual charity football game to benefit the Greene County 100 Club.
Ticket holders will receive a free hamburger or hotdog at the Family Funfest beginning at 4 p.m., can watch the game beginning at 6 p.m. and will be admitted to after party with ticket stub. The Funfest features the Fire Department offering ladder rides, the Greene County Posse with horse rides, and several police and fire vehicles on display. Tickets for the event are available by calling 417-864-1739 or at the gate before the game. Admission is free for children 12 and under and $10 for adults.
"This event gives the community a chance to laugh at a cop and not get in trouble," Ringgold said. “Plus, it supports the Greene County 100 Club, a great organization that supports families like my own if there were ever anything that happened to me.”
The Greene County 100 Club is a not-for-profit organization that provides financial support to the surviving spouse and dependent children of Greene County, Missouri police officers, sheriff’s deputies and firefighters killed in the line of duty. The event is made possible through the collective efforts of the Greene County 100 Club board members, the Springfield Police Department, Joplin Police and Fire Departments and with donations from local venues.
For more information about the Guardian Bowl or to purchase tickets, please call Annette Riley at the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1739. For interview opportunities, the Guns are available at practice every Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Plaster Sports Complex.
