FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 14, 2009 -- INDIANAPOLIS – When surgeons at St. Francis Heart Center searched for ways to explain the complex process of extracellular tissue repair of the heart, they turned to the medical illustrators and animators of Indianapolis-based Medical Animatics.

“An extraordinary breakthrough in cardiac treatment is being announced to the world. As with many medical and life science procedures – explaining the complex story can be almost as challenging as the procedure itself,” said Harlon Wilson, president and CEO of Medical Animatics.“ Our unique ability to produce state-of-the-art 3D animation and medical illustrations has helped many pharmaceutical, medical device, and life sciences companies to overcome this obstacle by deploying engaging visual and interactive media. We were excited to have the opportunity to help St. Francis tell this medical breakthrough story with high quality visual and interactive media.”

Following their recent deployment of Medical Animatics’ 3D animated patient education application for bariatric weight loss surgery patients, St. Francis Heart Center executives called upon Medical Animatics to aid in the worldwide announcement of the findings of this innovative treatment.

Marc Gerdisch, M.D., director of cardiothoracic surgery at St. Francis Heart Center, was the first in the world to use the CorMatrix Extracellular Matrix (ECM)™ to modify and repair cardiac structures, allowing heart tissue to re-grow inside the beating hearts of heart surgery patients. The CorMatrix ECM is a unique biomaterial that harnesses the body’s innate ability to repair damaged heart tissue. Over time, it is replaced by the patients’ own tissue.

“In preparing for the announcement of the findings of cardiac tissue repair we recognized the value of the Internet for disseminating information," said Jennifer Westfall, St. Francis' vice president of marketing and product development. "More importantly, we needed high quality illustrations and animations to help us tell our story to the public."

Explaining cardiac tissue repair to the world audience requires the development of high quality medical illustrations, animation, and visually engaging content for the various reading comprehension levels and learning styles of a diverse audience.
Gerdisch worked closely with Medical Animatics to ensure the accuracy and anatomic details of the illustrations and animations. You can view this work at http://www.tinyurl.com/Illustrations.

Visual and interactive media such as medical illustrations, 2D or 3D animation, video gaming, interactive streaming video, and other web or portable technologies are growing in their use by health care organizations who are seeking more efficient and effective ways to educate their audience about medical treatment. Medical Animatics has helped researchers, health care providers, ad agencies, marketing firms, and others to simplify complex information with the power of new media technologies.
