SteriTouch brings R & D in-house

March 10, 2011

Leading antimicrobial brand SteriTouch® has taken steps to further improve customer experience by moving to larger premises in order to bring Research & Development facilities in-house.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 10, 2011 -- The Welsh company specialises in developing antimicrobial additives for polymers based on the natural sterilising properties of silver, which prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and mould.
With half of 2010 sales coming from export to Chinese manufacturers producing for Western brand owners, SteriTouch® made the decision to conduct its own R & D to create a more efficient process for its customers manufacturing in the UK and abroad. It can now mould customer samples in-house, reducing machine downtime for the manufacturer, which customers are often charged for.

The turnaround time is inevitably quicker, with SteriTouch® now able to mould a sample and send it off for independent laboratory testing the same day. SteriTouch® customers manufacturing in China, including Mothercare and Universal Electronics, can now benefit from their end-products reaching production stage much more quickly.
SteriTouch® has also invested in equipment to create custom blends of additives for customers with specific needs. This is unique to SteriTouch® in that the onus is taken away from the manufacturers and allows the customers to receive bespoke solutions with guaranteed efficacy before they even reach the factory.

A recent example is Digitron UK, manufacturer of temperature, pressure and humidity instruments for numerous market sectors. Silver antimicrobials are renowned for causing discolouration in Nylon, this is especially true of impact modified grades. With its in-house facilities, SteriTouch® were able to swiftly develop a masterbatch for Digitron which effectively combated any discolouration issues in their material, without causing any inconvenience to the customer or their manufacturing processes.
Neil Warburton, Production Engineering Manager for Digitron:“SteriTouch promptly designed a masterbatch specifically for our problematic material. They also supplied sample mouldings, which gave us the confidence to proceed with a full production run.“
SteriTouch® is fast gaining status as the most accessible antimicrobial brand, with its refusal to charge licensing fees by allowing free use of the logo to customers as a co-brand. It also provides free product development, ongoing marketing and claims support, free initial testing and no minimum order quantities.

Joanna Wilson, Marketing Manager: “At SteriTouch® we pride ourselves on being able to offer a complete solution to our customers, so it was frustrating to be losing time waiting for samples to arrive from customers’ manufacturers. Moving to larger premises and investing in new development facilities puts us back in control of timescales and lets us continue to provide a superior service to our customers.”
