Lapeer, Michigan, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 15, 2012 -- LAPEER — The Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award received one more nomination over the weekend. Steven Cole of Lapeer was nominated, joining the list of nine other nominees for the 32nd annual award, which will be given out on Jan. 19.

Steven Cole is a local auctioneer who donates his time and talents to benefit auctions on a regular basis. In the past, he has acted as auctioneer at fundraisers for cancer survivors, private schools, the Humane Society and more. Barbara T. said, “I’ve been privileged to see many random acts of kindness and Steven’s eagerness to help the less fortunate.”

The annual Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award is given to one male and one female in the local area who exhibits outstanding service and commitment through volunteer work, contributions to the community and has a lasting, positive influence on the people around them.

A panel of judges, including Chamber director Neda Payne, will now review the nominations, their letters of support, and decide which two individuals will receive this year’s Citizen of the Year Award. While all of the nominees have an outstanding record of community service, the winners will be those whose influence is the most lasting and widespread.

The Citizen of the Year Award breakfast banquet will be held at Mott Community College in Lapeer, located at 500 Lake Drive on Thursday, Jan. 19. Doors will open to the banquet at 7 a.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 a.m.

State Rep. Kevin Daley, R-Lum, and Lapeer Mayor William Sprague will be on hand to present each recipient with a special tribute. Citizen of the Year recipients from last year, Byron Konschuh and Deborah Pascoe, will be present to honor the new recipients.
