The development of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system has created a demand for a new breed of healthcare professionals who are adept at using the latest computer and software technology for the maintenance and security of these records.

Stevens-Henager College’s Bachelor’s of Science in Health Information Management program is designed to groom technologically savvy health information executives who are responsible for collecting, storing, using, and transmitting important data.

The program curriculum covers a range of topics in management, health information, and business disciplines. Students are required to take courses such as Accounting, Economics, Management Principles, Human Resources, Computer Fundamentals, Databases, Healthcare System, Managed Care, Documentation in Healthcare, Medical Coding, Medical Terminology, Law and Ethics, and other such relevant topics as part of their academic study.

The focus of the program is also to develop in graduates important career skills like communication and critical thinking. Such skills are not specific to any one profession, but are applicable across industries.

Graduates of this BS degree in health information management may qualify for entry- to mid-level positions in the health information department of various clinical facilities, such as hospitals, physician’s offices, residential care homes, outpatient care centers, federal healthcare units, health insurance carriers, etc.

High school graduates or GED certificate holders are eligible for this program, which is available online as well as on five Stevens-Henager College campuses and three satellite locations.

Although the standard length of this program is 36 months, students can earn their degree in less-than-normal completion time (30 months) on the college’s flexible schedule.

Since classes begin at Stevens-Henager College every month, interested candidates can initiate the admissions process as soon as they are ready to start school by scheduling a personal visit to the campus of their choice.
