Stream UK announces live http streaming from Streaming Media Europe

LIVE HTTP STREAMING – live from Streaming Media Europe this week!

Once again, we’re webcasting and streaming live the conference sessions, seminars and keynote speakers live from Streaming Media Europe, the leading conference for technology solutions and online video. But this year, we’re doing it with a difference. For the first time on a major CDN, the 2010 Streaming Media Europe conference programme will be webcast live over http. Stream UK and Level 3 are working together to make possible a major advancement in the delivery of live content.

The main advantage of live http delivery over the previously used protocols is access to those inside corporate environments. The stream is now handled by the proxy server system, relieving the network of the need to handle multiple streams and avoiding many of the problems with firewall configuration. Where previously it was impossible for major companies like Yahoo! to have all of their employees watching all-hands announcements at their desks, now it is practical.

‘This is the protocol of the future,’ said Stream UK CEO Duncan Burbidge. ‘It is right for corporate viewers, for mobile viewers, for viewers on variable connections and for those paying bandwidth costs. I can honestly say it’s the single most important advance we have made in the last decade.’

From 10.30 to 11.30 a session will focus on Understanding Adaptive Bitrate Technology and HTTP Video Delivery. And we will be filming and streaming this session live on the SME website in the very protocol they are discussing!
