Student From The King's Academy Wins "Watch A Rising Start" Competition
On Saturday, November 14th, 2009, high school seniors performed at the “Watch A Rising Star” competition in Palm Beach Gardens.

On Saturday, November 14th, 2009, high school seniors performed at the “Watch A Rising Star” competition in Palm Beach Gardens. The Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches selected only five graduating seniors to perform.
The annual fundraiser began with cocktails and a silent auction at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner catered by Café Chardonnay and a live auction at 8 p.m. The cost to attend was $150 per person.
The five finalists were Felipe Alou, Cardinal Newman; Erin Thomas, Dreyfoos School of the Arts; Eva May, Palm Beach Central; Kelley McGillicuddy, Kings Academy; and Patrick Morley, Saint Andrews.
These students competed for $10,000 in college scholarships at the annual Watch A Rising Star fundraiser, which is produced by Kathi Kretzer of Kretzer Pianos. The first-place winner received a $4,000 scholarship; second place, $2,000; third place,$1,500; and fourth and fifth place, $1,250.
Kelley McGillicuddy, The King’s Academy Senior, placed first in this competition, winning a $4,000 scholarship. Kelley has performed in many roles in musicals and shows at The King’s Academy including lead roles as Eve in "Children of Eden" and Annie in "Annie." She has also performed professionally in a production of "Evita!" at the Maltz Theatre in Jupiter, Florida.
