New Distributor resistance to change can be a real pain to a leader. The answer for many is to just keep looking for those who are not resistant. New Distributors have to feel free to honestly raise issues and concerns with their coach or sponsor. That’s how they tailor the changes to fit their unique talents, family, and lifestyle. New Distributors require training and talking. Their uncertainty is highest, experience and belief are lowest, opinions vary the most, and emotions run strongest.
In that initial 72-Hour Fast Start training period…however long it takes…leaders plug new Distributors into their teams where they create the social support everyone needs. Then everybody on the team—no matter their background, education, or expertise—needs to be able to speak and be heard. Leaders teach everyone to complain up, never crossline or downline.
Two things then happen. First, the team experiences synergy from input and excitement. Second, people then act with unity and commitment.
How to maintain team standards
Once new Distributors and teams have talked about concerns and goals, it’s time to implement. But what about those who don’t follow the system?
Leaders help team members learn to confront one another in an effective, direct, and healthy way. You can either talk out problems or act them out. When you talk them out in a safe way, you show respect. You give your teammates the benefit of the doubt. You keep good notes and revisit earlier issues and goals. And you show that you believe they can change and improve.
Leaders develop these amazingly important skills from with an ongoing diet of personal development and practical application in every call and meeting. That’s the beauty of network marketing. You get plenty of practice in essential team-building skills.
We’ve seen leaders become so strong in these skills and so committed to using them that it has profoundly affected their teams. There can be both progress and backsliding, but when they continually pay attention to these carefully crafted conversations and confrontations, they enjoy solid, lasting friendships and true residual income.
