Star Overhead Doors’ Joe King says overhead doors are vulnerable to break-ins if not properly secured
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SUGAR LAND,
Texas,
United States of America
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 26, 2012 --
Star Overhead Doors, Sugar Land (http://www.staroverheaddoors.com) says improperly secured commercial overhead garage doors are magnets to thieves.
Joe King, owner of Star Overhead Doors Sugar Land said this week that like residential garage doors, commercial overhead doors are open to compromise in so many ways unless extra steps are taken to enhance their security.
“Most people think that just because they are overhead doors, they are completely different from residential garage doors. The truth is that overhead doors are just as vulnerable as the residential doors. They need to be secured,” King said today in his office in Sugar Land, Texas.
Most overhead door owners do not use remote control to access the doors. King said that reduces the risk but does not eliminate it.
“The fact that most owners of these overhead doors do not use remote control is important but it does not mean the doors are not vulnerable. Most owners fail to lock down the doors at the end of the business day, for example. I have seen situations where the last person to leave for the day forgets to lock the overhead door,” he said.
“Just last week, I was speaking with a customer and he was telling me about a friend who left his overhead door unsecured at the end of the day. The next day, half his office equipment was gone,” King continued.
The veteran Sugar Land garage door specialist advised overhead door owners to make a few simple changes to ensure full-proof security of their overhead doors.
“First, begin by deciding whose responsibility it is to confirm the overhead door is secure. This does not have to be the last person to leave but the last employee to leave the building could be required to call a manager or supervisor and confirm that he locked the overhead door,” he said.
King also said business should consider updating their door openers to take advantage of modern technology.
“Updating your garage door will enable you to take advantage of technological advancements like new internet enabled garage doors that alert you when they are unlocked for a period of time. You can also program these overhead doors to notify you when they are open after normal business hours,” he said.
