Survey reveals online daters enjoy interacting in virtual environments before meeting in person ... and regard it as an important part of an online dating experience
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 12, 2010 --
Toronto, Canada - A recent survey reveals that online daters enjoy virtual dating and regard it as an important part of an online dating experience. The survey was conducted by OmniDate Inc., a digital media company specializing in online dating technology.
Survey respondents overwhelmingly agreed that virtual dating is an important feature when selecting a dating site. Seventy-three percent of respondents indicated that they "prefer dating sites that offer virtual dating" and additional 21% said they consider virtual dating to be a "somewhat important feature of a dating site."
Virtual dating helps singles get to know each other in a fun and safe online environment before meeting in person. On a virtual date, users interact through photo-realistic 3D avatars, listen to music, and play conversation provoking games.
OmniDate surveyed several hundred singles about their virtual dating experience. Eighty-two percent of respondents who tried virtual dating indicated that they enjoyed this approach to online dating. In response to the question about what they liked about virtual dating, users commented: "It is very romantic;" "It's a great way to learn about the other person;" "It's different than most dating sites." Remarkably, 89% of respondents also stated that they would "recommend virtual dating to a friend."
"These results suggest that virtual dating will continue to play an important role in the evolution of the online dating model," said Dr. Igor Kotlyar, president of OmniDate, "Daters are looking for a richer online experience that can help them get to know the person behind the profile in a fun, yet safe, manner before rushing to meet a stranger."
Virtual dating has been gaining in popularity since 2007, when Scientific American described it as the future of online dating. The industry is committed to continuously improving user experience - according to Jupiter Research, only 1 out of 4 users are currently satisfied with online dating sites - and look to virtual dating as one highly promising avenue. In a recently published study, researchers from Harvard University and M.I.T. found that virtual dating significantly improves user experience and enhances real-life dating success. The results of the OmniDate survey provide further confirmation that virtual dating provides a promising direction for the industry.
