Swiss water management goes WISKI

Following an in-depth evaluation phase, the Swiss voted in favour of the intelligent software WISKI from the Aachen-based IT provider for the energy and water sector. The KISTERS solution will replace the currently used data storage system in a bid to answer current demand and be able to master future challenges. WISKI will be used as a data capture, evaluation, storage, and publication system for water and environmental information. The BAFU experts are planning to additionally utilise the system for strategy development with regards to ground and surface water protection. WISKI will allow for the first time a convergence of several older systems into one modern system, which will eliminate redundancies and guarantee consistency. Furthermore, the system will simplify the overall evaluation of master and production data, and improve data quality across the board, while data verification chains are evidenced by way of comprehensive, up-to-the-minute and complete documentation. WISKI will therefore allow the Swiss to maintain complete control over several thousand stations and more than 5 million samples.

The national ground and surface water monitoring unit of the BAFU (Department Hydrology) collects and publishes data and information content with regards to pollution, water quality, and general hydrological conditions in Switzerland. These federal tasks are conducted within the scope of the measuring networks DBGZ and NAQUA.
