Tacoma City Ballet’s The Nutcracker Opening Weekend a hit!

December 13, 2011 Tacoma, WA – Tacoma City Ballet’s historic, Russian production of The Nutcracker opened to near-record audiences for the first two of six performances scheduled this month. Ticket sales opening weekend were significantly above average for the last five years – each show had hundreds more audience members than Tacoma City Ballet has become accustomed to seeing opening weekend. “The closer to Christmas we can show The Nutcracker, the more people seem to want to attend,” stated Artistic Director Erin M. Ceragioli. “That’s why we added two shows the Wednesday before Christmas last year. Those shows did well, even on a weekday, so we kept that tradition going for this year,” she continued.

Tacoma City Ballet’s The Nutcracker is set apart as the sole production in the area to follow the story, scenic design, costuming and choreography as it was originally created by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov accompanied by Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky’s original score. The Nutcracker will once again be performed with live accompaniment by the Northwest Sinfonietta in the grand setting of the historic Pantages Theater in downtown Tacoma .
