The HEBS (Hermaphroditic Expanded Beam Small) connector is designed for harsh environmental application, where space constraints are an issue and standard Expanded Beam connectivity is too large. With just 21mm diameter and 100mm overall length the HEBS connector is one of the smallest 4CH Expanded Beam connectors in the market. For easy panel mount on a 1U rack a XLR compatible Flange Mount BulkHead has been designed which is widely adopted in the Broadcast market. Also a Jam Nut Bulkhead version is available. The unique push-on dustcap in comparison to most common screw on caps helps with a quick and easy installation as well as staying as short as possible on the overall length of the connector.

The Expanded Beam technology allows the usage of optical communication in the harshest environments and the Sockeye solutions; provide the user with the security that the communication link will work: first time, every time. The hermaphroditic design is particularly useful and provides unique benefits in rapid deployment or cable extensions, as no adaptors are needed. Any two connectors can just be interconnected.

The Sockeye connectors are available in Singlemode and Multimode with best performance in class. By design the connectors are future proof, as the optical path is optimised to support the range from 850nm to 1310nm in Multimode and 1310nm to 1550nm for Singlemode application. Beside the standard High Return Loss Singlemode version, the HEBS is even offered in a low Return Loss version to provide interoperability with existing connectivity on the market

The connectors are field repairable. The unique RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) tagging system provides a tool for inventory control and carries the performance data as an electronic test certificate. Having as standard; aluminium anodised housings, the Sockeye connectors are also available in stainless steel, which meets the requirements for naval, mining and other extreme applications.
