http://www.flaikidocenter.com The seminar series is aimed at providing women with a small but reliable arsenal of basic, easy-to-execute defense techniques that can be used in a variety of situations. While each individual class is self-contained and can be taken as such, the entire seminar series spans seven-months (one class per month) and covers a broader range of topics. Subjects to be covered include how to counter grabs, chokes and strikes; escaping multiple attackers; defense from a prone position; situational awareness; using improvised weapons; defending against simple weapons, and measured use of force.
According to Gina Boccolucci, the headmaster at Florida Aikido Center and one of the co-instructors for the self-defense seminar series, “When we began putting together this self-defense course, we took some of the most simple and effective techniques from Aikido, Karate and other styles, then put them into a format for non-martial artists that want to be able to escape or overcome an attacker that is very likely larger, stronger and more aggressive.”
Bryce Smith, the other co-instructor for the course, followed-up by saying, “I think it’s important for those interested in attending to know this isn't a martial arts class in the sense that most people think of one – no uniform, no rigid stances, no body conditioning, no ceremony. We’re going to do some serious work, but we’re also going to approach this course with a degree of humor and hopefully everyone that attends comes away with a very positive experience.”
The self-defense seminar series schedule is as follows:
Sep 17, 2011; Oct 15, 2011; Nov 18, 2011; Dec 10, 2011; Jan 21, 2012; Feb 18, 2012; Mar 24, 2012
