Tanya Young Williams, estranged wife of recently incarcerated, former NBA All-Star Jayson Williams, has partnered with local police departments and New Jersey Domestic Violence Agencies to offer a free powerful, engaging support-group seminar titled, By Invitation Only for All V.I.Ps (Victims In Peril, Upon leaving you‘ll be a V.I.P. Victim in Power). For the first time, New Jersey Coalition for Battered Woman, Woman Aware, Womanspace, Simuel Whitfield Simmons Organization and Purple R.E.G.Y.N have united to support a domestic violence awareness seminar to launch Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Officer, Dawn Flaunders of the Franklin Township police department, as well as, a representative from the Domestic Violence Unit will participate in this event. “I am honored to be the sponsoring non-profit agency for this event. To bring such women’s rights organizations together under one roof and be able to touch and support the women on Friday is awesome,” said Natasha Rogers, founder of Simuel Whitfield Simmons Organization.
Executives from the partnering agencies will speak, take questions and provide important literature to all interested parties. Representatives from the police department and the Domestic Violence unit will also give advice to victims regarding their rights, criminal procedure and safety measures. Lastly, Ms. Young Williams will share her unfortunate life experiences, lessons learned and candid advice to all victims and attending parties. “I have never shared my experiences as a victim of domestic violence with a group of women, but when I was thrown into the light as a celebrity who was a victim, I knew that I had to shine the light on this cause because I can help other victims in a real way,” said Young Williams.
Ms. Young Williams’ domestic violence awareness tour will launch on October 1, 2010 at the Crossroads theatre, but she will travel continuously to empower, engage and inform victims of domestic violence. As in New Jersey, Ms. Young Williams will partner with local police authorities and domestic violence organizations to offer free seminars of “By Invitation Only the for All V.I.P.s (Victims In Peril, Upon leaving you‘ll be a V.I.P. Victim in Power). “With the valued assistance of sponsors and women advocacy organizations, who support me and my desire to travel the country and world to inspire other victims, I will able continue to share my story in an honest and empowering way,” said Tanya.
