TECH Fort Worth has been recognized as the Tech Titans Technology Advocate for 2011 award, and its client, Encore Vision, won the Emerging Company Horizon Award.
Tech Titans is presented by the Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC). The awards recognize outstanding technology companies and individuals in the North Texas area that have made significant contributions to the industry. More than 1,000 people attended the recognition ceremony at the Anatole Hotel in Dallas.
According to the MTBC, the Technology Advocate Award “recognizes a technology service provider for outstanding leadership in the community by assisting, enabling or accelerating the performance of its technology clients. Providers eligible for this award are law, accounting, capital venture and recruitment firms; educational institutions; and related services companies that support technology and engineering companies or organizations.”
TECH Fort Worth helps companies commercialize their technologies, with particular emphasis on technologies that have a potentially major impact in the areas of environment, health and community. Darlene Ryan, Executive Director, and Brent Sorrells, Director of Programs, offer guidance and assistance to TECH Fort Worth clients, notably in the areas of raising bank financing and equity, applying for patents and growing businesses. TECH Fort Worth assists entrepreneurs with the expertise, networking and tools they need to make their ventures successful.
“We are honored to be recognized with the Technology Advocate Award and just as thrilled to have three of the four finalists in the Emerging Company Horizon category be our clients,” Ryan said. “We feel truly successful when the companies who choose to work with us achieve their goals.”
The other finalists in the Technology Advocate Award category were Carr, LLP; Lone Star Angels; and the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center at the University of Texas at Arlington.
The Emerging Company Horizon Award “recognizes outstanding innovation and unique accomplishments through potential breakthrough technology, processes, or services within the technology and communications industry, in companies with fewer than 100 employees.”
The mission of Encore Vision is to develop products and procedures for the treatment and prevention of presbyopia, the age-related loss of near vision. The company’s effort is to define, prioritize and pursue therapeutic targets; develop disease-modifying treatments; and broaden and reinforce its intellectual property portfolio. William (Bill) Burns is President and Chief Executive Officer.
“The Tech Titans award is an honor and comes at an opportune time for Encore Vision, now in a capital raise to fund the next development phases,” Burns said. “This award will help raise awareness of Encore Vision among those locally who might be in a position to fund our next development efforts.”
The other finalists in the Emerging Company Horizon Award were ZS Pharma, Resonant Sensors Incorporated and ShopSavvy. Encore Vision, ZS Pharma and Resonant Sensors are Acceleration Clients of TECH Fort Worth and lease space in the TECH Fort Worth Acceleration Lab at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, where they also collaborate with researchers at the school.
