Tennessee Makeup Artist Giving Back One Brush Stroke at a Time

Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) February 23, 2011 -- Nashville, Tenn., (Feb. 22, 2011) – Wearing makeup has always been a rite of passage for adolescent and preteen girls. With so many learning about this application process via the internet or the latest fashion magazine, one local makeup artist has decided to bring the tutorial to the classroom for hands on instruction.

Contrecia ‘Trecie’ Tharpe, owner of MakeUp by Trecie, is offering a makeup camp for girls enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chattanooga program. Girls Learning About Makeup (GLAM) Academy, will be held April 2, 2011 for preteen and teenage girls ages 12-18 years old who are a part of the mentoring program. This is the second installment of the academy since its conception in August of 2010.
During the two and a half hour camp, the “Little Sisters” will work with Tharpe on skincare, proper makeup application, natural looks, and makeup tips. At the end of the camp, each participant will receive a GLAM Emergency Makeup Kit composed of the items demonstrated in class, a GLAM certificate, and have a chance at giveaways from MakeUp by Trecie and Spa Confections, a specialty bath and spa company based in Nashville.

“I am excited about the opportunity and expansion of G.L.A.M. Academy. To be able to give back to the community of Chattanooga while still mentoring young girls is amazing,” said Tharpe, visionary behind the GLAM Academy. “So many young girls and women, for that matter, have not learned the proper techniques for applying makeup nor what's appropriate for school versus an outing. The girls in August said this is a fun way to get excited about and educated on wearing makeup while in a nurturing environment.”
Tharpe is a certified makeup artist who has worked in several awards shows, fashion shows, weddings and photo shoots since the re-launch of her makeup career in 2009. She is passionate about makeup as an art and plans to offer this and similar events at least twice per year as her way of giving back.
