Distinctive handcrafted wearable art jewellery and sculpture.Tessitura Elica is the name Simone Russell has given her somewhat sprawling output when weaving with wire. Her work includes both jewelry and sculptural design. Simone began weaving wire as a painting and drawing substitute when her little boy was born. What began as a creative diversion has become a passion and her primary mode of creative expression. She has studied architecture, design, education, and fine arts.
Wire weaving and wire crochet is a continually evolving art form for Simone - and Tessitura Elica™ gives her the perfect excuse to play around with, and 'push the boundaries' of wire weaving and wire crochet by weaving two, three and even four strands of pure silver, gold and rose gold into each other; creating amazingly intricate yet curiously robust sculptures and wearable art pieces.
The woven wire work of Simone Russell has been recognised by The American Craft Council as being 'fresh, expressive, simple, thoughtful... a keen sense of functionality... shows the relationship of the maker to their materials... demonstrates a sense of the joy of making something by hand'.
What customers are saying...
"It is a gorgeous necklace, you have exquisite artisan hands! I love both of my new treasures."
"Beautiful work, and professional service =)"
"I received the necklace yesterday and can't believe how truly beautiful it is. The design, scale, and craftsmanship are perfect, and it's so unique. When I opened the package and held it in my hand I was amazed by how lovely it was. Then I put it on over a simple black blouse and it was absolutely breathtaking.."
Who am I? A die-hard Etsy fan, professional web and graphic designer, and sculptor who believes in the value of the handmade.
I have worked on websites for small business, and websites for corporate companies. I would love to work on yours!
The creative me:
I live in the bush, and am building and next year will be living in our beautiful adobe cob (mud) passive solar home.
When I was younger I was lucky enough to live for a short time on the small Fijian island of Taveuni... my work here pays homage to the beautiful corals and fish I used to be able to see by just snorkelling out from the beach. The people there used to bring me huge cowrie shells as gifts, and I will always remember my time there with love, thankfulness and wonder.
I love to sail and love boats, sails and wind. I love the salt on my sails at the end of a days sailing.
My background is in architecture, fine art, education and web design.
I enjoy creating beautiful imagery and sculpture, and am always experimenting with new ways to work with, and create objects from, what are often considered traditional materials. The element of surprise is an important part of the creative process for me, as is the almost meditative state I find myself in on occasion when I am creating it.
I exhibit my artwork in both solo and group exhibitions.
I also have a website with my fiance, coraliatasman.com which may have some useful info in it.....
