The Bronze Smith Cast Bronze

August 25, 2009

African Animals and german shepherd cast bronze sculptures on a key ring.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 25, 2009 -- I was born at Voi in the Crown Colony of Kenya. At the time this was just a watering station for the steam engines on the main railway line to Uganda and was surrounded by thick, dry, thorn bush country. This was so infested by game that in the end, any attempts to settle the area were abandoned and it became the Tsavo National Park.

In this setting my brothers and spent every possible moment in the bush hunting extensively, or just studding the ways of the wildlife. It is reasonable to say that we lived with game as when we were not out looking for it, “it” was tramping is’ way through our garden. (Elephants love flowers).
From as early as I can remember, I drew, or modelled in clay all that I saw around me. Later when in the Army, I found the problems of carting around a camera and keeping this and its film safe, to be too much trouble. Instead I drew, made watercolour sketches and modelled in whatever came to hand at the time.
Now retired from military service I have returned to my first passion and have given practical purpose to my art by miniaturizing the sculptures and mounting them as key rings.

To accomplish this, I not only had to learn how to cut and polish Silicon Bronze, but have became a fair hand at making miniature tools and hand stitching leather.

Bronze sculptures
Each piece is an original artwork that is modelled in wax before a mould is made from it. Wax copies are then taken and any blemishes corrected before they go to a manufacturing jewellers to be cast in Silicon Bronze using the “lost wax” technique.
As all of these stages result in blemishes and distortion, each casting is individually examined, corrected and polished before being ready to rivet onto their genuine leather backing. A piece is finished when the ring is attached and the edge of the leather is hand stitched down.

Given the degree of individual attention that goes into every stage, every one is unique in it’s own right.
The process is so time consuming that they will never be mass-produced and only those that are ready at a given time, are offered for sale.
Should you wish to have a piece that is not in stock, I will take your details and contact you as soon as a piece is ready.

Price. NZ$ 40 plus the cost of posting and handling. As this will vary depending on the country to which it is to be posted, this additional factor will be made known to you before your order is taken and payment made.
