The First Group Boss Leads Team to Victory in Prestigious Polo Tournament
The First Group Joint Chairman, and patron of The First Group polo team, Gary Shepherd, led his side to victory in the final of the Duke of Wellington Trophy at the Guards Polo Club in England.

In a tight final against Shalimar, The First Group came from 4-1 down towards the end of the second chukka, to level at 5 all at the end of the fourth. A brilliant 60 yard penalty by Max Charlton in extra time sealed the 6-5 victory for The First Group. The team’s star 7 goal player, James Beim was injured in a collision after three minutes of the first chukka and had to be replaced.
“What a way to end the season,” said Gary Shepherd. “I am really proud of the team for showing so much resilience and determination to come back to win against the odds.”
The Duke of Wellington Trophy was presented to the side by his current namesake.
The First Group polo team were also presented with the Loet Vanderveen Trophy for being the most successful team at Guards this year.
