Off the beaten path and committed to the art of improvisation, progressive jazz outfit The Harris Group offers a sound of their own. While most jazz bands adhere to certain compositions and song arrangements, the Harris Groups believes in the freedom that comes with improvisation. Constructed in 2009, the group uses guitar, vibraphone, bass, and drums to create their jazz element. They use their diverse talents to present a living, breathing, form of music and audience interaction to drive their live performances.
Categorized as smooth jazz, modern jazz, or progressive jazz, The Harris Group encompasses jazz styles of old and new. Their refreshing take on these genres also comes with plenty of surprises. Regardless of which vein they are a part of, it is certain that they are diverging from the genre of classical jazz altogether. It is the appreciation for music as an art form that drives them to create a different presentation during each show and always providing a new slant to their existing material. Most songs are written by band leader Ric Harris, and are performed with solos, arrangement, and stunning melodies.
Recorded using Pro Tools, The new album “Choices” will give listeners an idea of the overall sound of The Harris Group while showing their ability to move their music in a different direction seamlessly. “Choices” will be made available on Amazon, CD Baby, and other online music distributors. Also be sure to watch for Harris Group during upcoming gigs including a concert for the Epilepsy Foundation of Chicago, which is currently in the planning stages.
For more information on the Harris Group, and their diverse jazz sound, check out “Choices” which will be dropping on March 1, 2012 with updates on their website at www.theharrisgrp.com.
